Everyone hates the administrator. FACT. They block the best sites, and stop you from installing loads of ace stuff on your boring old work computer.
So when I installed the brand new Google Chrome on my work PC (for some reason I can, although loads of other executable files are disallowed) I, a humble internet user, went straight to Youtube to test out loading times etc.
However, Flash needs to be upgraded, and I get a nasty little message telling me I need the latest player.
When I download the file in the link, I get a similarly nasty warning from my PC that I am not allowed to install ‘executables’ like flash player. So no Youtube, no A.viary applications, or anything remotely flash related (seemingly 84% of all online content…)
Here’s how you get round that. Cue evil laugh.
2. Then rename it to .zip. It’s a special archive file of only the plug-in bit of the flash player app from adobe that interacts with your browser.
3. Extract it with Winzip to a place you’ll remember. (I did it to My docs but it can go anywhere.)
4. Grab the flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll files. Copy them (Right click, copy)
5. Head to C/Documents and settings/”YOUR USER NAME”/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Chrome/Application/Plugins/ and copy your files in there.
6. Close and restart Chrome
7. Go to Youtube and try it out.
8. I also put the files in this location to cover my bases but I think its unnecessary:
C/Documents and settings/”YOUR USER NAME”/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Chrome/Application/”File with a load of numbers instead of a title”/Resources/
You’re welcome Internet. After all you’ve done for me.
PS: LOL you got rickrolled.

a team mate pointed a small mistake in the text : the path is “Plugins” , not “Plug-ins” : not C/Documents and settings/”YOUR USER NAME”/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Chrome/Application/Plug-ins , but C/Documents and settings/”YOUR USER NAME”/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Chrome/Application/Plugins

Thanks, I fixed that. I have a feeling depending on what OS you are using that some of the other folder names will be different – I guess just searching your PC for the folder “google’ might be a good way of finding the right path…

The plugins folder is moved into this folder 0.2.149.27 by itself.
in my case:
e:\gre\broswer\Chrome\Application.2.149.27\Plugins\

Hi,i use winzip ver 9.0 and it isn’t able to extract the xpi file on changing the extension to zip and i get the following log : ” End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a Zip file, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part Zip file.”
I downloaded the same file from various links but the problem persists..Help!

You are a god to me!
It took me a while. I figured out that I had to CREATE the Plugins folder. So I did, pasted the items you said to, and it worked.
Seriously, I love you.

Excellent. I am now swinging to the sweet sounds of all my YouTube playlists at my alternate computer.
One twist for me: the folder “Plugins” wasn’t initially in the directory. Once I created that folder within Applications and copied the two files, all worked great.

1. Copy the following and paste it into “Run” under the start menu:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application
2. Create New Folder named plugins
3. Download http://goo.gl/aepG
4. Rename; change file extension from xpi to zip.
5. Copy flashplayer.xpt and NPSWF32.dll
6. Paste into the folder you’ve just created.
7. Close your Chrome browser and restart it.
